A Day in the Life: Network Manager
A Day (or Season) in the Life of a Network Manager at AirCargoGroup
When people ask me what a “typical day” looks like as Network Manager of AirCargoGroup, I often smile – because the truth is, there isn’t one. Managing a global network isn’t linear; it’s cyclical. It flows more like seasons, each with its own rhythm and focus.
Some seasons are full throttle, others appear quieter on the surface but are equally critical in building the foundation for our members’ success. Here’s a peek into what those seasons look like as the Network Manager of AirCargoGroup.
The Seasons of Network Management
🌍 Conference Planning Season
This is one of our most intense and rewarding periods, leading up to our Annual AGM & Conference. Months in advance, the planning machine is already in motion:
- Venue & logistics: researching, securing and negotiating with hotels, meeting spaces, and local partners.
- Agenda design: building a schedule that balances AGM, one-to-one meetings, panel discussions, and networking opportunities.
- Member engagement: sending invitations, confirming attendance, and making sure every participant is matched with the right connections.
- Coordination & communication: liaising across time zones, finalizing supplier contracts, and preparing promotional material.
During this season, my day is a blur of spreadsheets, late-night calls, and endless follow-ups – but it’s also the most rewarding. The AGM is where our network truly comes alive, and everything we plan for months culminates in a few incredible days of collaboration and connection.
💼 New Year / Membership Season
As January rolls in, it’s all about structure and clarity:
- Making sure membership invoices go out on time and are accurate.
- Checking in with every member: touching base on their goals for the year, addressing concerns, and reinforcing how we can support them.
- Reviewing renewal patterns and ensuring the network remains strong and cohesive.
This season sets the tone for the year – clear communication and smooth administration help us start on the right foot.
🗂️ Admin & Build Season (where we are now)
This is the quieter-seeming season, but in reality, it’s the backbone of our network’s success. Behind the scenes, we’re:
- Checking in with members outside of invoice season, just to stay connected.
- Compiling airline figures: making sense of data so we can share valuable insights across the group.
- Building an in-house RMS (Relationship Management System): a tool designed to give our members added value – without costing them a cent.
- Refining processes, reviewing systems, and laying the groundwork for smoother operations when things speed up again.
It might not have the spotlight of conference season, but this is where we build resilience into the network.
A Snapshot of a Current Day at AirCargoGroup
Right now, during Admin & Build Season, a day in my world looks something like this:
- Morning: Member emails, invoice checks, and a home-made smoothie to start the day the right way.
- Mid-morning: Data deep-dive – compiling airline figures, building the RMS system, and any mailing list or directory updates.
- Afternoon: Strategic work – planning for next quarter, preparing communication for members, and fine-tuning conference planning timelines.
- Late afternoon: Closing off the urgent requests of the day, reflecting on what worked, and setting priorities for tomorrow.
- Evening: A well-deserved glass of wine to switch off and recharge – because balance is part of productivity, too.
Why the Seasons Matter
Each season is a reminder that running a network isn’t about a single project or event – it’s about balancing short-term needs with long-term growth.
- Conference planning builds visibility and connection.
- Membership season creates structure and trust.
- Admin season keeps the wheels turning and future-proofs our work.
Together, they ensure AirCargoGroup isn’t just a network – it’s a community that thrives year-round.
👉 If you’re part of a global network, you’ll know the rhythm is never quite the same twice. For us, every season has its challenges and its magic – and that’s exactly what makes this role so rewarding.
